Knowledge Transfer Solutions

Knowledge transfer is about two basic things: knowledge - and how that knowledge is transferred. It is a process which involves people and ideas, it turns technology, know how, expertise and skills into innovative, commercial products and services.

Being focused on providing solutions to help address real business problems, GAIN through Plymouth University is committed to transferring the knowledge and expertise of academic and technical specialist staff, students and graduates in order to stimulate innovation and generate economic, social and cultural benefits through Knowledge Transfer Solutions. Plymouth University has a track record of excellence for knowledge transfer with a UK leading reputation for Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTP).

Part funded by Government, a KTP involves the formation of a Partnership between a business (including private and third sector organisations), an academic institution (such as Plymouth University) along with the appointment of a recently qualified graduate (known as the KTP Associate.) The Associate is jointly supervised to facilitate the transfer of knowledge and embed new capabilities within the organisation.

Other knowledge transfer mechanisms include:

  • Academic Expertise - many of the University's academic staff and research facilities are available on a commercial basis and can assist your businesses with their knowledge
  • Santander Plymouth Graduate Internship Programme - employ a recent graduate for a short term contract to deliver a project or take on specific responsibilities
  • Inspiring Futures programme - access a group of talented School of Management students to undertake a consultancy project for your business for free
  • Student Placements - a chance to employ students with specific subject skills for up to a year

What are the benefits to me/my organisation?

  • For Businesses - through collaboration and access to funding, these Partnerships provide skills and expertise to help businesses that want to develop innovative solutions, enabling them to grow, or that need to address challenging strategic issues facing their organisation
