Can you help inspire young people in Cornwall?
Young Enterprise are seeking Business Advisers to act as mentors for their flagship YE Company Programme.
Young Enterprise (YE) is the UKs leading business and education charity and each year works with 220,000 students (ages 4-25) and 3,500 volunteers from 5000 companies.
Their flagship YE Company Programme provides a unique learning experience for students aged between 15-19, in schools and colleges across UK regions including Cornwall.
As part of the Company Programme, new companies are launched and operated by the students who develop a business idea, elect a board of directors, raise share capital and develop, market and sell their product or service over the academic year. This gives students first hand experience of running a company and throughout the process they acquire key employability skills.
YE are seeking new volunteer Business Advisors who can support each YE Company by acting as a mentor and providing consultation throughout the process. Business Advisers are a source of knowledge and motivation, encouraging and supporting students, and from time to time, instilling a sense of urgency, fostering team spirit, or playing “devil’s advocate.”
YE volunteers have experience which cuts across every sector of the economy. Typically they are in employment, entrepreneurs, stay at home parents, on career breaks or retired. They have one thing in common - a desire to pass on their business skills and experience and to inspire the next generation.
You would be asked to attend a 1 hour weekly meeting held at school,
between end of September 2014 and Easter 2015 (term time only).
Training: Initial training and on-going support will be offered by your local Young Enterprise Manager who is supported by a Cornwall Young Enterprise Board. There will be the opportunity to network with other volunteers throughout the year, many of whom have operated as Business Advisers for several years.
In Cornwall a launch event will be held on 13 October to kick off the year and all Link Teachers, Business Advisers and students from each team are asked to attend.
Can you support this fantastic programme?
Young Enterprise are currently looking for Business Advisers to work with newly signed schools in Cornwall for the new academic year. They are hoping to hear from those prepared to share their skills and experience with young people in the ultimate enterprise experience!
Business Sponsors are also required to keep these valuable programmes alive. With help from sponsors, it is hoped that students across all of Cornwall will have exposure to these valuable resources.
More information is available at www.young-enterprise.org.uk and there are case studies from other volunteers at http://www.young-enterprise.org.uk/about-us/case-studies/volunteers/.
