Soup to be served up to crowdfunders in Cornwall!

Cornwall Chamber of Commerce and GAIN are bringing the global crowdfunding phenomenon, Soup, to Cornwall – and are looking for businesses to pitch!

Soup has grown phenomenally from its original roots in Detroit, reaching Cornish shores this April. This unique event brings communities together to raise small-scale investment to kick-start new ideas and the Chamber are asking for new and established businesses interested in pitching to come forward.

Soup is an ideal platform to secure some funding for your business and the impartial support you need to make your ideas happen. It’s also a great way to practice your pitching and get face-to-face feedback on your business idea. The winning business will take away a prize of £500, as well as a whole range of exclusive opportunities that will give your idea every chance of success.

For the audience the concept is simple – come along, enjoy a bowl of soup whilst networking, and listen to four investment-hungry businesses pitch their idea. The audience decides which pitch wins the takings from door and the fantastic package of business support.  All the pitchers benefit from the exposure this unique platform brings them plus the chance to network with local businesses and contacts at the event too.

Dr George Graham took first place in the February Soup event at Plymouth University with his start-up Peninsula Honey Company:

“I was really surprised by how well my idea was embraced, and gobsmacked that people thought it was good enough to vote for - winning was a complete surprise, and I’m thrilled.
The money will be a boost, but the opportunity to network with some serious players in the Plymouth business community and the wider South West business community has been invaluable.”

The event takes place on Friday 8 April, 12.30pm - 2.00pm at Truro School, Truro. The deadline for application to pitch is Tuesday 29 March and those interested can register directly via this link.

Tickets are also available to local businesses and members of the public who would like to become part of the audience of potential investors. More information on tickets and registering to pitch is available by following this link
