South West Digital Awards Announced

The South West Digital Awards are an opportunity to highlight, reward and encourage digital innovation in a variety of industries, throughout the region.

The free-to-enter awards will be held in May 2018, in host-city Plymouth’s historic and revitalised Royal William Yard. Plymouth was selected as the host city due to its ideal placement in the centre of the region with excellent transport links from the farthest ends of the UK in Cornwall, all the way up to Gloucestershire.

Plymouth, recently included in 2017’s Tech City report for the first time, joined the ranks of other Tech Nation-recognised South West hubs including Bristol & Bath, Bournemouth & Poole, Exeter, Truro & Redruth, highlighting the up-and-coming nature of the city.

The awards are not just focused on obvious technical sectors, with a varied list of 12 categories, including health care and use of digital by charities, among others. After immense interest from software companies, the Best Use of Digital for HR category was expanded to encompass all software, now titled ‘Best New Software’. Entries for this category could include any software from HR to sentiment analysis.

The evening itself will be different to any other, with 10 free spaces available in the ‘Play Zone’, an immersive showcase space. South West-based start-ups working on engaging and interactive projects can apply to exhibit to guests throughout the evening – expect gaming, VR & more! Rather than a standard keynote speech during the awards, guests will be able to interact through social media with business and digital experts from the South West and beyond, during a live Q&A panel. With hot topics including investment, staffing, scaling and growth outside of London and the European Union. It will be an opportunity to hear a consensus on the future of the region.

Nominations for the awards open at midday on 21 August 2017 at helmsquared.com.
