St Austell Brewery to host Innovation Club

St Austell Brewery is hosting the latest Innovation Club event, organised by GAIN with Plymouth University, Cornwall Chamber of Commerce and Cornwall Innovation.

Guests will hear from two of Cornwall’s biggest and most influential businesses, St Austell Brewery and Worlds Apart, at the breakfast event on Wednesday 15 June.

Launched in December, Innovation Club is a community for Cornish businesses. It offers a series of free informal gatherings where businesses can come together to share ideas on fostering good ideas and turning them into reality. Guest speakers also give their insights on how innovation has helped them.

CEO of one of Cornwall’s largest employers, St Austell Brewery, James Staughton is the great-great grandson of the company’s founder. He will provide insights to the brewery’s recent developments, including innovative initiatives such as Academy 1851, a training centre for people working in the hospitality industry. James will explain how St Austell Brewery, which remains 100% independent and family owned, does far more than brew multi-award-winning beer.

John Stewart and Andy Cooper of children’s lifestyle products company Worlds Apart will share experiences that will resonate with anyone seeking to develop new products and services. This creative business, which is based in North Cornwall and has a range of hugely successful products such as Readybed, brings a playful approach to the design process.

Adrian Dawson, Head of GAIN Projects and Partnerships at Plymouth University said:

“Whether it’s turning ideas into money, developing new services or being more efficient, innovation is just about doing things differently. It’s a key driver of business success, but can be difficult to foster in a business.
“Our third Innovation Club event has fantastic speakers from some of Cornwall’s biggest and most innovative companies. After the great feedback we have had from our first two events, we are looking forward to meeting other like-minded business people who want to share ideas.”

Cornwall Innovation, which operates three award-winning business acceleration centres in Truro, Pool and Penryn, has been working closely with the GAIN team to organise the Innovation Club events.

Richard Scutt, Manager of Pool Innovation Centre, said:

“The Cornwall Innovation team supports businesses based at the three centres to grow by encouraging companies to work together, share ideas and to be more innovative – and this approach has proved so successful that we are working closely with GAIN to organise Innovation Club events to enable more businesses in Cornwall to do the same.”

Tickets for the event are free and businesses can obtain them here:
