The global SOUP movement comes to Plymouth!

GAIN with Plymouth University are bringing the international crowdfunding phenomenon, Soup, to Plymouth and are seeking both early-stage businesses and audience-investors to take part.

Soup is an international crowdfunding phenomenon that brings communities together to raise small scale investment to kick-start new businesses or ideas.

The concept is simple – come along, pay £3.50 for a bowl of soup, and listen to three or four investment-hungry businesses pitch their idea.

Pitchers each have the floor for up to four minutes, and must rely on their passion and speaking abilities alone to win over the audience – no gadgets, give-aways or PowerPoint. The audience can then ask a maximum of four questions to try to establish which business is most worthy of investment.

With the presentations over, soup is served. The audience has time to network with fellow soup-funders before voting for their favourite pitch by placing their empty bowl at the table of the business they feel is most worthy of investment.

The winning business gets to take home all the money taken at the door and use it to fund their plans - plus a package of business support from GAIN, Devon Chamber of Commerce, Formation Zone, and the Futures Entrepreneurship Centre at Plymouth University.

Taking place on Wednesday 3 February, from 12.30pm - 2.00pm in the Rolle Marquee at Plymouth University Main Campus, the event costs just £3.50 to take part. This covers entrance to the event, a bowl of vegetarian soup, and one vote.

It’s also a great way to practice your pitching and get face-to-face feedback on your business idea. The winning business is guaranteed to take away a minimum prize of £750, as well as a whole range of exclusive opportunities that will give your idea every chance of success.
