About us

At Enterprising Women, our goal is to help women achieve the success they want, by empoweringconnectingtraininginspiring, campaigning, promotingcelebrating and supporting them in whatever way we can. We warmly welcome all female business owners, new and well-established, from any sector, background and from all parts of the UK.

What makes Enterprising Women different?

Led by Bev Hurley, we launched in 2006 with a brand new approach, centering on the concept of building a supportive community, and advancing women's enterprise through providing support at all stages of the business journey, including growth - a novelty then, when all the focus was on pre- and start-up. We transformed the support landscape for women, starting in the East of England with funding from the Regional Development agency.

Other unique attributes were the 100% focus on being led by the needs of the women we served, our own significant first-hand experience of the highs and lows of running our own successful businesses, and a passion for wanting to share our skills and knowledge in a creative, collaborative and supportive environment and enable others to do so to.

Finally, all our high quality, real-world training courses are not only delivered at female-friendly times and locations, but are designed both to extend functional business skills and learning at the same time as developing women's management and leadership skills. We believe you can best grow a successful business by growing your personal skills in tandem - and that we can all learn from each other.

In 2010, we established Enterprising Women as a not-for-profit company. We've seen too many businesswomen be turned off by hard telesales calls, high membership prices delivering little value, and expensive, unsustainable franchise deals; being not-for-profit is is a really important part of our ethos. In tough economic times, our members need to know and trust that we're doing everything we can to increase value to them, not to us.

We're grateful that many of our speakers and workshop hosts do not charge fees, but give a little of their time, inspiration and expertise back to help others.

Enterprising Women Today

Our community grew rapidly across the East and South of England through word of mouth referrals, and now reaches over 45,000 women across the UK.  We've picked up prestigious awards and commendations along the way, including UK Government and European Best Practice for SME and gender support, but the thing we value most is our high levels of member satisfaction and hearing about their successes.

We continually invest in developing and evolving new business services.  We're now building our network of Business Clubs through our volunteer hosts, who provide that all important face to face local contact each month. At the same time, we're increasing our strategic partnerships around the world to help members who are looking to trade internationally, and developing our corporate partnerships to enable us to bring funded or subsidised services to our members.

There's much, much more in the pipeline for 2014 - we hope you will join us, share your expertise with us and the community, and learn and grow from what it can give you in return.  Together, we can really make things happen!

We offer

The Enterprising Women community offers you many ways to help you grow your business, including promoting your news stories and expertise, an unlimited profile, forums to learn and share with others who have been there or who are going through the same challenges as you, the opportunity to build your network of relationships, find partners and experts - as with everything, what you get out depends on the effort you put in!

Here are just a few of the main sources of support to help you start or grow your business.

Mentoring from our Enterprising Women Mentor Bank

Sometimes an independent pair of eyes and a fresh perspective from someone who has been there before you can provide invaluable benefit to you, and to your business. Mentoring is a powerful personal and development tool and a partnership between two people which is based upon mutual trust and respect. A mentor acts as your guide, helping you find the right direction, developing solutions, challenging assumptions – all in a supportive and constructive way.

The mentoring scheme is for full members only. You can apply to be a mentor wherever you are based in the UK and we also welcome mentors from outside the UK as more and more of our members are exporting.  If you feel you can add value to women looking to export into your market, we'd love to hear from you.

Our unique, comprehensive growth programmes and intensive workshops

From our holistic business and personal growth programme or our 2 day intensive growth programme, to our access to finance and investment readiness programmes, our wide range of highly practical, intensive workshops are there to support you and your business at every stage.  Special rates exist for full members of Enterprising Women.  To find out more, please visit our Growth Programme page.

Online resources and guides

Members can access resources and guides any time of the day or night in our ever-expanding resources section. This is like a library, with checklists, hints and tips from other women in business, professional organisations, and contributions from experts in their fields.  If there are topics you are interested in that we haven't covered, please contact us and let us know.

Partner, supplier or prospect searching

You can use the site to search for the perfect business partner or for a supplier near you – or even for companies who you think might benefit from the services or products you offer. Or give us a call if you’re looking to find a strategic alliance, or need a facilitated connection, or want to sign up for our training course on how to find and build sustainable and successful partnerships. The community is a great source of peer support, but is also there to bring business solutions and opportunities. So make sure your profile is completed so people can find you and your business!

Our community!

With around 45,000 women in our Enterprising Women community, there's bound to be an expert who knows the answer to your question, (or knows someone who can), a local member with whom you can get together for a coffee or something stronger, and of course our local Business Clubs where you can meet for brunch, for lunch, for networking each month.  Maybe you'd like to be a new host and help build YOUR local community? You will never feel alone or as if you're the only person going through any particular challenge - we've all been there with child care, guilt, partners, caring for aged ones, juggling - the thrills of success and the agony of defeat.
