About us

Cornwall Marine Network (CMN) is an organisation dedicated to supporting the Marine sector in Cornwall via initiatives that improve profitability and encourage growth through quality and innovation.

Cornwall Marine Network was established in 2002 to improve the prosperity of Cornwall's world-class marine sector - it received its first round of EU funding in 2005.

Twelve years on, the Network remains firmly rooted in the sector, seeing the key to the current and future success as continuing to support members through inventive training and marketing initiatives.

We offer

Membership Benefits

Cornwall’s Marine Guide & Directory This is the free handy A5 guide for finding a marine business in Cornwall. The A to Z has contact details, business descriptions and a product index for quickly finding your business. It’s distributed across the County, promoted via www.cornwallmarine.com and at specific events outside of Cornwall.

www.cornwallmarine.com As a member of CMN you are included in our online directory at www.cornwallmarine.com
This website is targeted at people who get out on to our waters. It’s dedicated to providing information on the Cornish marine community, including reviews of key areas, quick searches to find marine businesses, events, news and much more.

www.cornwallmarine.net All members are listed on and have access to www.cornwallmarine.net. This website is used for communicating with our members, including updates on benefits available, programmes and initiatives and useful links.

It is also home to Member Messaging: This is our online tool that allows members to email the whole network with just a few clicks - a great service for announcing new products or services, offers, or simply good news stories about your business.

Royalty Free Image Bank CMN has compiled a high quality image bank of more than 9,000 royalty-free marine images – ideal for enhancing websites, brochures and adverts. Come to the office to browse through the images.

Training Specific Benefits

General Training & Training Grants

CMN can act as your training manager, auditing your training needs, sourcing the right course at the right price, and organising courses at a location of your choice.
You could also receive a training grant to help subsidise your course costs. Depending on the course, a grant could be up to 30% of the total cost (net of VAT). Many of the courses CMN organise are short courses to ensure you achieve the appropriate skills and to ensure you’re not away from your business any longer than you need to be.

National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs)

National Vocational Qualifications are work related, competence based qualifications. CMN offer opportunities to gain an NVQ in a range of topics including Marine Engineering, Fabrication and Welding, Port Operations and Business Administration.

You could receive funding to support you, including a wage subsidy; it’s regularly assessed in the workplace so there is no need to sit exams or go to college.
Cornwall Marine Academy CMN is raising the profile of the marine sector amongst young people aged 14 to 19, encouraging new blood into marine career paths. CMN provide taster sessions and are presenting at road shows to schools and colleges across the County and the South West. Young people can sign up to a variety of short courses, including introductions to boat building, boat handling skills and dinghy sailing.

On the successful completion of a short course the candidate may wish to explore a marine apprenticeship.

Apprenticeships

CMN can help set up an apprenticeship programme, matching an apprentice with a suitable member business. Our apprenticeship programme follows SEMTA (Science Engineering Manufacturing Technology and Aerospace) and British Marine Federation guidelines.

Skills for Life

The Skills for Life programme is an opportunity to update your English and maths skills and on successful completion will lead to a nationally recognised qualification.

If you’re undertaking any kind of training please come and discuss options with us. We’d be happy to conduct an audit of your training needs and look at grant opportunities.
