About us

As a 'one-stop-shop' for environmental technology businesses in the South West, we provide a gateway to the expertise, funding and support services you need in order to succeed in one of the UK's fastest growing and most competitive sectors.

Finding the time to review your business performance, identify what assistance you require and get in touch with the appropriate agencies is always a difficult ask. We do the hard work for you, providing a single point of contact and securing the most relevant business services on offer across regional and national organisations and networks.

Our dedicated advisors work directly with you or your company, identifying development opportunities and tailoring a bespoke support package that best fits your needs and aspirations. This might focus on new product development, access to funding, improved manufacturing processes, skills and training, intellectual property protection or establishing overseas trade. We also provide networking and partnership building opportunities - facilitating collaborations between the enterprises and individuals we work with and bringing together representatives from environmental businesses, other industry sectors, academia and the public sector to discuss ideas and share best practice.

The Environmental Technologies iNet is led by the University of the West of England and backed by a consortium of regional partners (University of Exeter, Bristol City Council, Royal Agricultural University). Together we are working to strengthen the South West's reputation as a leader in green business and helping to secure ongoing growth in the low carbon economy.

We offer

The Environmental Technologies iNet provides support to the most promising environmental goods and services businesses in the South West of England (*Excluding Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly).

We can help you develop, protect and commercialise your ideas, products and services - and if you are already trading, we can help you exploit new markets and grow your sales. As a £2.7 million EU-funded project, supported by an impressive consortium of regional partners, all our services are confidential, independent and free of charge. No fees, no commission, no hidden agenda.

Benefits

Access to expertise and the knowledge base

  • Partnership building and collaboration with universities
  • Employment of graduate interns and student placements
  • Academic consultancy and use of university testing facilities
  • Networking with other businesses and organisations

From student and graduate recruitment, to workplace training and research and development, higher education institutions have a great deal to offer a growing business. Our close relationships with all the region's universities, three of which are iNet consortium partners, means we are ideally placed to help you benefit from their knowledge and resources.

The South West has one of the highest concentrations of environmental scientists and research institutions in the world - the Met Office, the Plymouth Marine Laboratory, the Environment and Sustainability Institute, the Cabot Institute, etc. Taking advantage of the capabilities on your doorstep makes good business sense.

Other iNet partners include a leading centre of sustainable energy expertise and a civic authority with a track record of implementing innovative environmental solutions. When combined with the capabilities of the businesses in our network and the sector-specific focus of our advisors, this represents a powerful consortium of knowledge for our clients to tap into.

Support for ideas, products and services

  • Business reviews, mentoring and ongoing 1-2-1 support
  • Workshops addressing specific business needs
  • Follow-up support from independent specialists
  • Provision of bespoke market intelligence reports

An ability to transform ideas into commercial reality is one of the most important criteria for long term business success. Ensuring these ideas are adequately protected and the resulting products and services find the most effective and sustainable route to customers is also essential.

Our calendar of workshops and events address these common issues, providing targeted assistance in key areas such as intellectual property protection, attracting private equity investment, accessing European funding streams, improving the efficiency of your manufacturing processes and breaking into new markets.

We often arrange follow-on support for those with specific needs, including appointments with independent experts. If another organisation is better placed to provide what you require, we ensure you are introduced to the right people. And of course, if a company we already work with has expertise that could help improve your business, we make those collaborations happen.

The topic for our next workshop will be intellectual property protection. A date is yet to be confirmed, but you can register your interest by emailing the team or calling 0117 32 86711.

Growing your business and finding funding

  • Single point of contact for regional/national support
  • Help to identify/secure funding and attract investment
  • Assistance with gaining access to new markets
  • Support for trade missions and visiting delegations

We provide a range of confidential support options aimed at stimulating business growth, facilitating access to new markets and securing funding. From initial business reviews to more intensive diagnostic sessions and longer-term mentoring, we help ensure you make the most of regional, national and global opportunities.

We also offer assistance with grant applications and access to other sources of finance and investment. Our regular events and workshops have covered topics such as European funding sources, attracting angel investors and UK government grants for collaborative research and development.

With the global value of low carbon environmental goods and services forecast to rise to £4.3 trillion by 2015, there are significant opportunities for UK companies to engage in international trade. To ensure the South West benefits from this trend, the iNet periodically supports trade missions for our most market ready clients, adding value to existing UKTI visits with pre-mission support and market intelligence. If you are ready to start trading abroad, we can help to make it happen.
