The PenCTU has expertise in developing, supporting and coordinating multi-centre clinical trials and other well-designed studies, and works with research networks and key partners to deliver the full spectrum of clinical trial expertise across the South West Peninsula.

Systems Biology Facility

The Systems Biology Facility forms part of a multi-million pound investment into Biomedical Sciences at Plymouth University. The custom built research labs house our proteomics and genomics facilities, as well as many core pieces of equipment. We have the expertise and flexibility to deliver services to external research collaborators and commercial organisations.   The Genomics Facility houses Genomics and transcriptomics equipment; the Proteomics facility houses Mass Spectrometry and Chromotography equipment with expert technical and analytical support provided.

The Centre for Biostatistics, Biomarkers and Bioinformatics (CBB) is active in supporting the NHS locally and nationally with statistical expertise. Staff run a weekly statistics clinic for NHS staff in Plymouth, providing advice for research studies, data management, statistical analysis and reporting.

CBBB also supports the UK NHS Fetal Anomaly Screening Programme Down’s syndrome screening Quality Assurance Support Service (DQASS). Its research has had significant impact on the Public Health England National Screening Programme for fetal anomalies, in statistical and bioinformatics support for the Fetal Medicine Foundation, and numerous internal and external agencies and screening programmes in Europe, Canada and the Far East. It works with global diagnostics companies in product development, education and quality improvement.

Continuing Professional Development

PUPSMD offers a range of CPD opportunities for NHS and other external organisations.  These include master classes with plenty of hands-on experience, workshops on commonly occurring difficulties and conferences featuring expert speakers. You can also choose to study the modules and components of our taught postgraduate programmes as short courses.

We deliver courses in various locations across the South West in formats to suit you, from face-to-face to distance learning, and even a blend of the two.
