About us

Torbay Council is the unitary authority for the Torbay area in Devon, England. Torbay has a thriving tourism industry including the towns of Torquay, Paignton and Brixham.

We offer

Torbay Council has a coordinated approach that will allow the town to have a single voice on its strategic priorities and help all key partners to pull together in the same direction.

> Outset Torbay provides support and guidance for those looking to start a new business in Torbay. It provides a flexible, tailor-made support programme designed to suit individual needs and, after attending an information session, guidance is provided on the best starting place within a two-stage programme. It also supports existing businesses that have been trading for less than three years through post-start workshops and events such as social media training.

 

> We offer advice on rates, planning applications, commercial property searches, and we can, by working in partnership with the Torbay Development Agency, help individuals to set up or expand their business. .

 

Torbay Council currently offers Business Rate Retail Relief for occupied premises in Torbay. Business Rate Relief of up to £1000 can be awarded. This scheme will run until the 1st April 2016.

 

> If you operate a food business we offer free, impartial business advice on both the day to day and legal aspects for being in the food trade. We also run training course on various aspects of food safety and produce regular newsletters so you can keep up to date with new food safety legislation. Torbay Council is part of the national Food Hygiene Rating Scheme and the food safety officers can help you through this process and how the scheme works. In addition we offer free Health & Safetyadvice for employers who have a legal duty to identify and control hazards in the workplace.

 

> Torbay Trading Standards also work with businesses to ensure the consumers of Torbay are protected from unscrupulous business activities which in turn help to create a level playing field for businesses.
