About GAIN

What is GAIN?

GAIN is the Growth, Acceleration and Investment Network. It was founded by Plymouth University, Plymouth City Council and Tamar Science Park to accelerate the creation, growth and investment in high quality businesses and ideas to create wealth and jobs in the South West Peninsula.

Who else is involved?

GAIN is a regional partnership that also includes Formation Zones in Devon and Cornwall, Cornwall’s Unlocking Potential enterprise programme, Cornwall’s three innovation centres, the Beacon peer-to-peer business network across the South West, the national University Enterprise Network and world class University R&D facilities. Through its partners GAIN is involved with more than 500 businesses employing more than 32,000 staff and turning over in excess £2.7 billion.

What does GAIN do?

GAIN builds upon and adds value to the existing range of business services, assets and facilities by joining them all up, making them focused and accessible. In practice this has brought together more than £120 million of business infrastructure, research facilities and expertise in a network focused on growth-minded businesses and investors.

What does GAIN offer?

For businesses: GAIN means access to new business and growth opportunities, finance and investment, and world class knowledge and research facilities and equipment. It also offers businesses a route to become part of local and global partnerships and gives them visibility and exposure to international investors.

For people with ideas: GAIN offers ideas protection and intellectual property commercialisation services as well as technical facilities and know-how, incubation and start-up support and access to new networks and investors.

For investors: GAIN will reduce risk and maximise growth by finding the best businesses and ideas, providing a first look at potential deals, bringing intelligence together in one place and creating oven-ready investment propositions.
