Background

Altitude was started by managing director Miles Noble soon after finishing his degree in graphic design, and after a year of running the business alongside working for another design company decided to focus on Altitude full-time.

With several big projects already under his belt, including designing the websites for recording artists Mylo and Robyn and rebranding for Holiday Inn Express, Miles needed well-equipped office space in a creative environment and moved to Plymouth University’s Formation Zone.

While based at the Formation Zone, Altitude collaborated with Actuate Marketing and communications company 51 Studio, and the three companies have now moved together to Royal William Yard, forming a consortium able to offer a full design and communications package.

GAIN – The benefits

After stumbling upon the Formation Zone by accident while visiting Plymouth University, Miles found it had everything he needed to grow Altitude and credits it with getting him to where he is today.

Miles Noble, managing director of Altitude said: “The Formation Zone offers the whole package – they supplied all the equipment I needed like a Mac, phone and printer, and the staff there are always a great source of support if you ever have a problem.

“Being at the Formation Zone also led to the partnerships and collaboration with Actuate Marketing and 51 Studio, so I can honestly say I wouldn’t be where I am today without it.”

Altitude has now become one of the first businesses to move into the newly renovated studio space at Royal William Yard, along with its fellow consortium members. The Plymouth landmark now comprises office, retail and restaurant facilities, and is set to become a hub for creative businesses in the city.

Miles said: “With Altitude, Actuate and 51 Studio working closely together on several projects, it was a natural progression to move out into a shared office. Royal William Yard is an amazing trendy, creative space, and when the opportunity to move there came up it was at just the right time for us and was too good to say no!”
