Background
Graphic designer James Beresford started Collaborative Thought 18 months ago, having always wanted the freedom of running his own business.
James started out running the business from his home in Truro, but a quickly increasing workload meant a need to work with freelancers, and a need to have his own office space.
When the opportunity to move to the Tremough Innovation Centre (TIC) arose, James jumped at the chance to not only have an office but to be based in a creative, collaborative hub.
GAIN – The benefits
Moving into TIC has allowed Collaborative Thought to build stronger relationships with freelance partners and has given the company the space it needs to continue to expand.
James Beresford, founder of Collaborative Thought said: "Moving into TIC marks a very exciting time for the business and a big milestone in its story. Just 18 months ago I set up the company, established a strong portfolio and built up a diverse talented pool of collaborative partners. Now with the base that the new office provides, it enables us to work closer and more efficiently with our partners and clients – listening, consulting, collaborating and implementing ideas throughout the design process.
“I think TIC is particularly appealing for creative companies, so there’s a natural serendipity with a lot of the other businesses moving here. Being based here will give me a great opportunity to build more working relationships – I’ve already met one web design company I wouldn’t have heard of otherwise.”
James hopes that as the business continues to expand, he will eventually be able to take on more full-time members of staff as well as working with freelancers. He also intends to take advantage of the links TIC has with University College Falmouth to provide work placements for design students.
”It’s extremely valuable experiencing work placements during university, so to be able to provide this opportunity for the undergraduates of University College Falmouth will give them a chance to learn about the industry first hand, assisting on live projects and understanding the workings of a design studio.”
Results and the future:
- New office at TIC will enable the business to continue to expand in a creative and collaborative environment
- Focus at the minute is growing the brand and increasing its customer base
- Collaborative Thought hopes to use link with UCF to provide students with work experience
