Eddie Jewell Acoustics

Fast Facts

  • Set up in 2008 as an acoustic consultancy to monitor all aspects of noise pollution
  • Relocated to Pool Innovation Centre (PIC) in October 2011 (part of the GAIN network)
  • Benefited from PIC location including support and networking
  • Plans to increase staff and grow turnover from £300k to £500k

Background

Eddie Jewell Acoustics was a one-man company until 2010 when Antony Best joined as a UCP graduate, but following Eddie’s untimely death in February 2011 Antony took charge and has since employed technician Ryan Wilson.

With increased noise control legislation affecting building design plus restrictions on a range of sources from mining to wind farms, noise is a growth industry - leaving Eddie Jewell Acoustics in a good position to support the industry including developers and architects.

GAIN – the benefits

Eddie Jewell Acoustics was originally based in Falmouth but needed to find a new location when its old lease expired. Originally PIC was a temporary solution until a planned move to the Tremough campus of University College Falmouth was finalised, however the company found the new space perfect for its requirements, offering support and opportunities for growth.

Antony Best, technical director, said: “On a day to day level the staff are warm and welcoming, collecting and distributing post and generally running the building securely and professionally. From a wider perspective the Pool Innovation Centre is a vital part of our business networking and support not just within the Centre but via links to other organisations.”

Eddie Jewell Acoustics is currently working with Oxford Innovation to grow the business from £300K to £500K over the next couple of years and increasing its workforce will be vital.

“In order to reach our targets expansion is going to be a top priority and the Pool Innovation Centre has the ability to accommodate growing companies at a subsidised rent,” said Antony.

“It is fantastic to be working next to like-minded businesses in some of the highest spec purpose built office space in Cornwall, but more importantly we can’t hear the traffic…”
