Food producer? Perfect your product with help from a FREE Industrial Solutions event

Plymouth University are holding a free event on Wednesday 12 November 2014, 10.00am - 2.00pm, aimed at food producers to examine how science can support their work.

The event is organised by, and will take place at, the Plymouth Electron Microscopy Centre (EMC), which has already worked with numerous food production companies to improve efficiencies and product quality.

Speakers from the across the food industry will talk about their experiences of using electron microscopy to benefit their business, and how they have successfully applied for grant funding through GAIN - the Growth Acceleration and Investment Network, to develop their company's capacity.

In particular, this event will look at cryo-SEM, which uses a scanning electron microscope to provide invaluable insight to those looking to improve the quality of their product, test new processes and ingredients or identify and eliminate contaminants.

The event also aims to cover subjects such as:
> how Electron Microscopy benefited my company > how I used grant funding to grow my company
> how the University has supported my company in other ways.

There will also be the opportunity to look around the University's food development lab with Dr Victor Kuri, a leading food scientist, to gain an insight into the sort of product development work he has carried out with companies over the last few years, including Roddas Cream and Kerry Ingredients (UK) Ltd.

This event, which is offered free of charge, is funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), and is one of a range of opportunities offered to South West businesses by Plymouth (EMC).

The Centre also provides expert support and access to a wide range of microscopy solutions which can aid product improvement, waste and cost reduction, and new product development. Plymouth EMC are able to offer eligible small companies 12 hours of support free of charge, until March 2015 thanks also to ERDF funding.
