Festival of Code, UK's number 1 code competition for young people, comes to the South West
The Festival of Code is the UK's number 1 competition, festival and independent global network for coding for kids aged 18 and under and sponsored by brands such as Google, Pearson, American Express and Twillio.
The Festival of Code, held over a week in multiple centres, culminates in a huge showcase weekend at Plymouth University from 1 -3 August. It brings 1000 talented individuals from UK & the world to Plymouth, in partnership with i-DAT and Plymouth University, who are the future of coding and technology.
Participants are given government data and challenged to develop digital solutions to real-life problems. They will then showcase their idea to elite panels of judges with heats running at Plymouth University and the great final at Plymouth Pavilions, watched by over 1500 spectators.
The Festival is seeking sponsors, who will benefit from targeted exposure and unprecedented access to the great technical minds of the future. Sponsors can take advantage of judging and advertising opportunities, as well as aligning their brand with this exciting initiative.
Birgitte Aga, Creative Director at Plymouth University and one of the Festival organisers, said: 'this is both a really positive way to create brand awareness and to reach out to the coding talent of the future. Sponsorship of the Festival enables you to associate yourself with an exciting and unique event, promoting your business, reaching wide audiences through extensive media coverage, all in a philanthropic context!
Last year Chancellor George Osbourne and Jimmy Wales (co-founder of Wikipedia) were present meeting the participants. This year will again see an internationally renowned panel of celebrity judges with national publicity expected. Previous festivals has been covered by local and national press, including The Guardian, The Independent and The Times as well as TV, with an appearance on BBC Breakfast News amongst others, and radio, with a slot on 5 Live. The Festival achieved an incredible 1.8 million Twitter accounts reached by #YRS2013, which also appeared in top trends on Twitter during the week.
