Tamar Science Park welcomes third new client of 2013

Telephone network operator Tamar Telecommunications has become the third new business to join Tamar Science Park (TSP) in as many weeks, marking a dynamic start to 2013 for the Park.

The arrival of the communications company follows the announcement that two pioneering health and technology companies, FTR Mobile Support and the National Autistic Society, have opened new offices at Tamar Science Park this month.

Tamar Telecommunications provides a range of business telecom products and innovative support services, which are designed and managed by their own in-house team of technical engineers.

The business has been operating in Plymouth for more than 10 years, with a customer base ranging from small businesses and local councils to national charities and large corporate companies employing thousands of staff around the world.

The company's team of seven staff moved into their new offices at Tamar Science Park on Monday 28 January, relocating from their former base at St Modwen Road, Marsh Mills.

Kevin Christoforou, Managing Director of Tamar Telecommunications said: "In 2012 we celebrated ten years of Tamar Telecommunications. 2013 is set to be another landmark year for us, as we settle into our new offices at Tamar Science Park. After looking at several sites in the Plymouth area, we chose Tamar Science Park for our new head office. We are looking to triple our workforce over the next two years, and Tamar Science Park provides excellent facilities and surroundings in which we can achieve this.

Tamar Science Park provides a complete business environment for its clients, with a broad range of business support services on offer as well as high quality office accommodation and resources.

In 2012, Tamar Science Park welcomed 23 new clients to the Park and supported 18 resident clients to grow.

Spread over 25 acres, the Park houses more than 80 organisations, employing around 650 people and generating nearly £100 million in revenue.  Key sectors include:

·         Advanced Engineering & Marine

·         Digital & Creative

·         Environmental & Renewables

·         Medical & Healthcare

·         Research & Development.

Simon Chamberlain, Chairman of Tamar Science Park, said: "Tamar Science Park has an attractive offer of a high quality working environment supported by a range of business services, which we have been focusing on expanding over the past year. We are delighted to welcome an innovative and ambitious company like Tamar Telecommunications to TSP, and hope that TSP can play a role in the future success of the business."

Council Leader Tudor Evans added: "Three new businesses on the Tamar Science Park in three weeks - this is an extraordinary start to the year for a Park that's making serious progress attracting and nurturing hi-tech innovative businesses.

"Clearly the combination of great facilities and more importantly, access to support and services offered by the Growth Acceleration and Investment Network (GAIN), is helping to put the Park head and shoulders above the rest of the competition.

"It's also really heartening to see a home grown communications company doing so well and be in a position to move with expansion plans in the pipeline. Hats off to them!"

Businesses based at TSP have full access to the support and services offered by the Growth Acceleration and Investment Network (GAIN), of which TSP is a founding partner.

GAIN was set up by Plymouth University, Plymouth City Council and TSP to accelerate the creation, growth and investment in high quality businesses and ideas to create wealth and jobs in the region.

Julian Beer, Pro-Vice Chancellor of Plymouth University said: "Tamar Telecommunications is an excellent example of a local business thriving in the technology industry, and it is exactly the sort of business that will benefit from being based at Tamar Science Park. With access to all of the services offered by GAIN and TSP, Tamar Telecommunications will have access to a number of services that can help them grow and create more highly skilled jobs."
