Regen's manifesto to create 34,000 energy jobs in South West
An ambitious Manifesto to create 34,000 jobs in the South West renewable energy and energy efficiency sectors has been launched by RegenSW.
RegenSW says that 10,000 jobs have already been created in the sectors, but potential is 34,000 by 2020 establishing the South West as the UK leader.
The Manifesto has eight strands - RegenSw pledges it will:
* Work to continue to develop a clear and consistent regulatory framework that incentivises long-term investment in renewable energy and energy efficiency.
* Proactively support the south west marine energy park and the development of a world leading marine energy sector.
* Press for investment to update the national and local grid and for the roll out of new 'smart' technology to support more local generation.
* Support development of a local supply chain able to deliver at scale green deal energy efficiency measures and micro-generation.
* Back renewable energy and energy efficiency as a key priority sector for Local Enterprise Partnerships, Local Authority economic development strategies, city deals and Enterprise Zones.
* Speak up for clear policies to provide a framework for renewable energy development in Local Plans.
* Work to put local communities at the heart of new renewable energy projects.
* Promote the south west as an ambitious knowledge centre for new renewable technologies across businesses, schools, colleges and universities.
The Manifesto will be officially launched at the House of Commons on Tuesday 4 June. West of England, Heart of South West, Dorset and Cornwall Local Enterprise Partnerships have already confirmed their support.
